Arts by Nancy Garrett

Artist, author, herbalist, first-responder
firefighter, karate black belt: all
words which describe Nancy Garrett
of Tallulah Falls. From childhood, this
self-described ‘artsy’ woman has followed
her interests wherever they have led. Now
in middle age, Nancy is still ready to
tackle challenges and opportunities as
they arise. “I’m a naturalist,” she says,
smiling, “I am interested in what is outside
my back door.”
Growing up in Athens, moving to Jefferson,
then to Clarkesville before settling
in Tallulah Falls, this multi-talented
woman has successfully tried and mastered
many outlets for her creativity. Since
2000, she has been an artist-in-residence
at the Georgia Heritage Center for the
Arts in Tallulah Falls. In her home studio
and at the Center, Nancy has made soap,
produced herbal products, executed
paintings, constructed corn-shuck dolls
and shaped pottery sculpture.
Nancy’s inspirations come from nature,
body movement and empathetic feelings.
“Human emotions of wonder, happiness,
sadness, love, joy can be expressed in art,”
