Wine Futures
The burgeoning growth of the wine industry in our state has prompted The University of Georgia (UGA) to collaborate with vintners in a summer intern program that gives qualified students hands-on training in all aspects of vineyard management and production. This collaboration began four years ago when Dr. Scott Angle, dean of theUGACollege ofAgricultural and Environmental Sciences,met with theWine Growers Association (WAG) to discuss how the university could help accommodate the needs of the industry. Each year, students interested in viticulture and enology may make application to this intern program. Candidates are usually pursuing a degree in science and most often come from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences or the College of Horticulture.After being accepted, they are paired with one of the hosting vineyards in the area.
