Grape Growing for Wineries

The practice of growing wine grapes is an ancient one. Various sources suggest vineyards existed as early as 6000 B.C. Texts from tombs in ancient Egypt verify that wine was in use around 2700-2500 B.C., and biblical records indicate that Noah planted a vineyard just after the antediluvian period in about 2300 B.C. Suffice it to say – people have been cultivating grapes for a long time.

This tradition of agriculturists continues to this day, including a list of winegrape growers in Northeast Georgia. These growers include: Ellijay River Vineyards, Engelheim Vineyards, Hightower Creek Vineyards, Stack Farms and Stonewall Creek Vineyards. Together
they help meet a demand for “Georgia Grown” grapes by supplementing the crops of existing vintners and wineries.
